I’m excited about tonight, for many reasons. My good friend is celebrating her birthday with a dinner party at one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn: DuMont. I love the cozy ambiance and warm lighting. Just about every dish on their menu is mouth-watering and I aim to try them all. Most of all, however, I am excited to wear what I think is the perfect casual dinner outfit. Let me explain:

These 3.1 Phillip Lim drawstring pants ($350) have all the right features for comfortable, and possibly gluttonous, dining without looking sloppy. The slim leg and rolled hem are clever details that make this classic style fresh and modern.
Add a slim cut tank top, like this one from T by Alexander Wang ($85), to minimize the volume of the slouchy pants. Sadly, it’s not quite warm enough yet to only wear this tank, so I’ll be throwing on my favorite, perfectly worn-in denim jacket to help break up all this khaki.
Lastly, I think incorporating a high heel will make this outfit more appropriate for a nighttime affair. I love the warm cognac-colored leather of this clog from Yves Saint Laurent ($490). The cushioned insole is so comfortable; I know I can rely on this shoe to take me from dinner to a nearby bar to walk off a hearty meal.
